PHOTOS, SPECIFICATIONS, AND INFORMATION ON 29 "IDEA" CARS BUILT BETWEEN 1940 AND 1961. THIS 40 PAGE BOOKLET WAS PUBLISHED BY CHRYSLER CORP. IN 1961 FOR CHRYSLER EXECUTIVES AND DESIGNERS.

EXCEPT FOR THE THUNDERBOLTS AND NEWPORTS, MOST OF THESE CONCEPT CARS WERE DESIGNED BY VIRGIL EXNER, OR DESIGNERS UNDER HIS SUPERVISION, AND MOST WERE OPERATIONAL CARS BUILT IN ITALY. THEY SHOW THE EVOLUTION OF THE "FORWARD LOOK"- CARS WITH FINS;  AND THE BEGINNING OF "WEDGE SHAPE" DESIGNS. MANY OF THESE CARS STILL SURVIVE, AND ARE BEING RESTORED.

THIS CHRYSLER 1963 2-PASSENGER CONCEPT CAR WAS CALLED THE "TYPHOON" AND THE ESSENCE OF THE DESIGN WAS USED ON THE 4 PASSENGER CHRYSLER TURBINE CARS. THE DESIGN WAS BY CHARLES MASHIGAN, DIRECTED BY ELWOOD ENGLE.  IT WAS "RETRO FUTURISTIC", BORROWING FROM  FORD ADVANCED STYLING CONCEPTS OF THE 1950'S.
